A 30-minute documentary, which details the origins of important museums and art galleries of the State, was released at a function organised by the Department of Museum and Zoos on Sunday.

The official release of ‘Reflections' was followed by its screening on the Museum premises. The documentary was made as part of the heritage conservation initiative of the Department of Zoos and Museums.

The origin, evolution and mission of the Art Gallery and Krishna Menon Museum in Kozhikode; the State Museum and Zoo in Thrissur; and the Napier Museum, Zoo and Sri Chitra art gallery in Thiruvananthapuram, are featured.

Directed by documentary-maker Venu Nair, the project was completed in four months with the help of a 15-member team.

“We have tried to capture the most important aspects of each location so that the viewers will have an idea of the import of heritage conservation. Though this is just a 30-minute visual, it should evoke interest among viewers to visit these museums. Another project on the relevance of these historically important structures to society is also on the anvil,” he added.

“The documentary will be made available on the department website and we are planning to broadcast it through national TV channels such as Doordarshan,” said K. Udayavarman, Director of Museum and Zoo.

According to Superintendent, Natural History Museum, S. Abu, the aim of the documentary is to make the public understand the origins, and the relevance, of many buildings they see every day.
