‘Development of Rajaji Nagar not to be opposed’

November 30, 2014 11:26 am | Updated 11:26 am IST - Thiruvananthapuram:

The State government’s plans for development at Rajaji Nagar would not be opposed, but handing over of the 11.2 acres of land to real estate mafia will not be allowed under any circumstances, V.S. Sivankutty, MLA, has said.

"The present area at Rajaji Nagar is enough for the existing 5,000 persons from 971 families to stay. The government and the local body should share the Rs.70 crores required for the proposed project to redevelop the area. Funds for this can also be made available if it is included as part of the Central government’s Urban 2020 project. The LDF government has shown an example in Karimadam colony where all the families were provided new flats without losing even a cent of land,” he said in a press release. He said that corruption happens when private agencies are awarded works in the guise of government managed projects. Mr. Sivankutty alleged that a land deal worth crores is being planned in the name of the urban housing mission.
