March 29, 2017 12:39 am | Updated 12:39 am IST - THIRUVANANTHAPURAM

Residents of the capital city will get an opportunity to be transported to the colourful and majestic milieu of rustic Rajasthan, with Alliance Francaise Trivandrum organising a show of Langa music and Kalbelia dance, indigenous to the desert State, on Wednesday.

Langa, a vibrant and evocative music tradition with origins in the Thar desert, is performed by hereditary professional musicians to the accompaniment of the Sarangi, known as the ‘instrument of many colours.’

Walli Khan, Sikander Khan and Sardar Khan of the Langa community will showcase the famed music on Wednesday.

Vijay Lakshmi Ameta will perform the Kalbelia dance, a sensuous dance replicating the movements of a serpent moving to the whims of a snake charmer.

The show is being organised in association with Bharat Bhavan and Goethe-Zentrum.

It will be held at 6.30 p.m. at Bharat Bhavan.
