: An automatic debit system, by way of which water bills can be debited from the consumer’s bank account, is being readied by the Kerala Water Authority (KWA).

According to a KWA release here on Friday, the project would be implemented via the Reserve Bank of India’s electronic clearance system with the help of Federal Bank.

Consumers would have to link their consumer number with their bank accounts for the purpose, for which a one-time consent form too would have to be submitted.

Once this is done, water bills would be deducted from their accounts.

The consent form would be distributed at the KWA’s revenue offices and on the utility’s website,www.kwa.kerala.gov.in, Ashok Kumar Singh, Managing Director, KWA, said in the press release.

The official announcement and launch of the project would be done at 4 p.m. on January 19.

Nirmal Chand, RBI Kerala-Lakshadweep regional director, would launch the facility at the KWA training centre at Vellayambalam, Mr. Singh added.
