DDC decides to renovate waterbodies

The District Development Committee (DDC), which met at the Collectorate on Saturday, decided to initiate steps to renovate the waterbodies in the district in order to address the problem of drinking water shortage.

The committee also resolved to expedite necessary preliminary steps for launching a KSRTC garage in Kaniyapuram.

Officials of the Excise Department informed the meeting that steps to rein in drug trade in the close vicinity of educational institutions had been intensified. Inspections were conducted in areas surrounding nearly 140 schools recently and several cases were registered in this regard. Awareness programmes were also being conducted to highlight the ill-effects of such products.

C. Divakaran and B. Sathyan, MLAs, District Collector S. Venkatesapathy, and District Planning Officer V.S. Biju were among those who attended the meeting.
