A 28 year-old woman was arrested for allegedly being involved in the murder of her father-in-law at Chengannur in Alappuzha district of Kerala.

US-based Bhaskara M Karanavar, who was visiting his son in Chengannur, was found murdered in the house last Sunday.

According to the police, Karanavar’s daughter-in-law Sherin, who was being interrogated since Monday, was found to be involved in the murder and was arrested yesterday.

Police claimed that a group of three persons killed the 65-year-old man by strangling and suffocating him under Sherin’s instruction.

They said that they had clues about the other two accused, who would be arrested soon.

Articles worth Rs 1.25 lakh, including a laptop, were stolen from Karanavar’s room on the day of the murder, they said, adding the accused may have been after his property.

Sherin was produced before the Chengannur Munsiff First Class Magistrate Hafiz Mohammed and has been remanded to judicial custody.
