The Kerala Police need to be turned into the most modern police force in the country, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has said.

He was speaking after launching the new website of Cyberdome, a technological research and development centre of the Kerala Police Department at the Technopark here on Saturday.

He also launched other new facilities including the Kerala Police's traffic app, a social media lab to prevent crimes against women and children on the Internet, and the online portal of Kerala Police circulars dating back to 1956. He also inaugurated the Ethical Hacking parade, a training workshop organised by the Cyberdome.

The Chief Minister said that Kerala tops the country in Internet penetration and consequently there has been a spurt in cybercrimes here compared to other States."The traditional police system cannot handle the threat of cybercrime as our police personnel are not trained intensively in that. It is this lacuna which led to the idea of a cyberdome, a first of its kind facility in the country, dedicated to fighting cybercrime. It is based on the principle of private-public partnership and cooperation to enhance cybersecurity," he said.
