Indo-Anglian writers now have an interactive cyber forum to exchange creative ideas and share their passion for the language. A group of English lovers across the country has taken the initiative to launch an exclusive online journal www.indianruminations.com.
At a function held here on Sunday, historian and vice-chairman of the Kerala State Council for Higher Education Council K.N. Pannikar launched the online journal dedicated to Indo-Anglian literature.
The brain behind the journal, poet S.N. Sandhya was present at the function, along with a host of young writers. Mr. Pannikar also released Ms. Sandhya's collection of poems titled ‘Break the Silence'.
Indianruminations features a collection of poems, essays, interviews, reviews, short fiction, literary criticism and art. “English has come to occupy an important position in the era of globalisation. But much of the writings in the language project Western culture. Most writers themselves are based abroad with only a feeble link to India,” says Ms. Sandhya, an employee with the Kerala Sustainable Urban Development Project (KSUDP).
”Indo-Anglian literature has now come of age and is now a separate entity reflecting Indian lifestyle and culture. There is need to give more space to Indo-Anglian writers, those who live in India and represent the middle class. Our objective is to promote such budding creative writers and enable their voice to reach out to the world.”
The idea of an online journal was the result of frequent interactions between a core group of 40 poets who used different media to review their works and exchange ideas. The launch of the web site was followed by the annual meet of New Voices Writer's Circle. B. Hridayakumari inaugurated the meet.
The English writers' circle has been initiated by Annie George, P . . Noushad, J.T. Jayasingh and Shyamala Nair, among others. “It is aimed at complementing the activities of the online journal,” says Ms.Sandhya who also involved in the activities of the circle.
