CPI(M) stand on liquor policy out of fear: Congress

April 09, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 07:17 am IST - THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:

The CPI(M) Polit Bureau’s statement that it will not alter the government’s liquor policy stems out of fear that it will evoke public protest, KPCC president V.M. Sudheeran has said.

In a release here on Friday, Mr. Sudheeran said the CPI(M) State leadership, which supported the liquor lobby, should alter its stance in public interest.

Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala said in a statement that the polit bureau’s statement on liquor policy lacked sincerity.

“The CPI(M) is trying to reopen bars in the guise of abstinence,” the Home Minister added.
