On Wednesday, when Sheeba and Radhika tie the knot with their grooms, they will have reason to thank the City Corporation. The civic body has taken the initiative to conduct the marriage of the two young women, residents of the Mahila Mandiram at Poojappura, an institution under the Social Welfare Department.

It was on a request from the management of the Mandiram that Mayor K. Chandrika promised to conduct the marriage ceremony in a befitting manner. Various institutions responded favourably to her request to provide material help to organise the event.

While two prominent jewelleries pledged to donate gold ornaments, voluntary organisations came forward to provide financial assistance, a textile showroom offered the bridal dress and a hotel took up the responsibility of hosting the marriage feast.

The Mayor said the two youth who had come forward to marry the orphaned women would be honoured on the occasion.

While Anand from Kannur weds Sheeba, Shiju, a native of Chavara, Kollam, ties the knot with Radhika.

The wedding is scheduled to take place at the Government Children's Home, Poojappura.

The Mayor, ward councillors, chairpersons of standing committees in the Corporation and social and political leaders are expected to attend the ceremony.
