The city Corporation’s collection drive for glass waste and old footwear held on Saturday yielded 85 tonnes of waste over a few hours.

Through collection counters set up at various parts of the city, the local body collected 60 tonnes of glass waste and 25 tonnes of old footwear.

The waste collection was organised as part of the ‘My City, Beautiful City’ waste management project of the local body. The counters were set up at Poojappura ground, Jagathy ground, Putharikkandam maithanam, Vanchiyoor court junction, Pippinmoodu junction, Kazhakuttam ward committee office, near Peroorkada ESI Hospital and near Chakka Health Inspector office.

The counters were opened just for four hours from 8 a.m. to 12 noon.

Long queues

Long queues were visible in front of most of the counters. The local body had earlier conducted collection programmes for electronic waste and plastic waste.

The Corporation is planning such drives frequently in the future. Next week, a collection drive will be organised for coconut husks and shells.
