Next time when you come across a leak in the drinking water pipeline in your vicinity, capture the image on your smart phone and send it across on WhatsApp to the Kerala Water Authority (KWA). The public service utility is all set to go hi-tech with the launch of a WhatsApp helpline number and a Facebook page to directly connect with its consumers in the State.

The KWA has tied up with Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd. (BSNL) to provide a common WhatsApp account so as to provide a platform for its consumers and the public to report any complaint or of matters related to the functioning of the authority. “The number is 9495998258. It will be activated after an official launch at the end of the month. We will also be launching the Facebook page as a platform for directly communicating with the consumers and improve efficiency,” KWA Managing Director Ashok Kumar Singh told The Hindu.

While the office of the Managing Director would monitor the WhatsApp account, a dedicated team would be constituted to keep a tab on the Facebook page. The utility has around 18 lakh consumers in the State, with the capital district having the maximum. By end of the year, another two lakh will be added to its consumer base.
