Prospects of energising the two organisations in the aftermath of the recent Assembly election debacle discussed.

The Congress leadership on Thursday held two separate discussions with Youth Congress (YC) and Kerala Students Union (KSU) leaders on the prospects of energising the two organisations in the aftermath of the miserable drubbing the party and the United Democratic Front received in the recent Assembly election.

For the first time, Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee president V.M. Sudheeran, Leader of the Opposition Ramesh Chennithala, and former Chief Minister Oommen Chandy sat together with the leaders of the two organisations in an attempt to seek ways to revive them.

In both the discussions, the common thread that emerged was that the organisational election methodology adopted for the YC and the KSU was flawed.

Consensus

There was a general consensus that the revamp process should be more broad-based.

Since the election system was introduced by Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi, the Congress State leaders said they would take up with issue with the party high command. Other suggestions included more autonomy for the two organisations.

Criticisms

There were criticisms against the manner in which the leaders of the Congress inducted sycophants into key slots overlooking those who were capable.

The three leaders gave a patient hearing.
