Compensation as per The Right to Fair Compensation and Transparency in Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation, and Resettlement Act, 2013 (LARR) will be given for the land being acquired for National Highway (NH) development in the State, Minister for Public Works G. Sudhakaran has said.

Land was acquired for NH development across the country under the NH Act of 1956. But, land acquisition for the NH corridors being developed by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) was being carried out and compensation was being paid under the LARR Act, 2013, since January 2015, the Minister said, quoting the NHAI.

'Collectors holding meetings'

The Minister said some vested interests were trying to confuse people to put roadblocks against land acquisition, citing that the land was being acquired under the NH Act, 1956. The Minister said one cent of land from Azhiyoor to Vengalam that cost ₹3.10 lakh was being provided a compensation of ₹7.44 lakh a cent as per the LARR Act, 2013. The District Collectors were holding meetings and taking people into confidence on alignment, rehabilitation, and other issues before initiating the procedure.
