The State Board of Technical Education will start a community college at the Government Polytechnic College, Attingal. The college, funded by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), will offer short-term courses in hospitality and automobile engineering. The courses are likely to start shortly.
Member secretary of AICTE Kuncharia P. Issac said four more such colleges would be established in the State. Community colleges would be established at the Government Polytechnic College, Kottayam; Maharaja’s Technical Institute, Thrissur; Institute of Printing Technology and Government Polytechnic College, Shoranur; and Government Polytechnic College, Perinthalmanna.
From Class 8These colleges would act as a tool for implementation of the National Vocational Education Qualification Framework, which had set common guidelines for a nationally recognised qualification system covering schools, vocational education institutes, and institutes of higher education, he said. Students from Class 8 could join the community college while doing their regular studies, he added.
Mr. Issac said the new building of the regional office of AICTE would be inaugurated near the golden jubilee auditorium of College of Engineering, Thiruvananthapuram, on December 30. The building had been constructed at a cost of Rs.8 crore.
