College teachers to get UGC arrears

The government has decided to release the arrears in salary payable to college teachers under the University Grants Commission (UGC) package.

In a press release, Finance Minister K.M. Mani said 7,899 teachers would benefit. The total amount that had to be paid as arrears would come to Rs.998 crore, out of which Rs.314 crore would be released as the first instalment.

Arears payable to teachers who were in service would be transferred to their PF accounts, while retired teachers would receive the payment immediately.
