District Collector Biju Prabhakar has mooted government compensation for the family of a man who died after falling into a ditch dug up for pipe-repair work.

A press note issued here said Kishore Kumar of Chempazhanthy had died after his motorbike fell into a half-filled ditch which the Kerala Water Authority (KWA) had dug up to repair a pipeline.

An inquiry by the Additional District Magistrate found that the KWA had not followed the norms to be adhered to whenever roads are dug up.

Rs.10 lakh suggested

The Collector has suggested a compensation of Rs.10 lakh for Kishore Kumar’s family. The amount may be recovered from the contractor concerned, the overseer and the Assistant Engineer in charge at that time, the Collector’s report said.
