CM’s mass contact begins tomorrow

The third phase of the mass contact programme of Chief Minister Oommen Chandy will commence here at 9 a.m. on Monday.

The Chief Minister’s office had received two lakh online petitions so far, an official release said here on Saturday. The highest number of petitions, 30,133, was from Kollam followed by Idukki (22,244). The office received 16,253 complaints from Thiruvananthapuram, 10,469 from Pathanamthitta, 12,355 from Alappuzha, 9,207 from Kottayam, 7,562 from Ernakulam, 9,124 from Thrissur, 17,708 from Palakkad, 18,817 from Malappuram, 11,089 from Kozhikode, 7,617 from Wayanad, 8,757 from Kannur, and 12,668 from Kasaragod.

As many as 66,083 persons applied for relief from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund; 33,725 persons submitted applications for houses and 20,498 persons for BPL cards. Applications have also been submitted for loan, medical expenses, title deed and many such demands.

Relief disbursed

Of the 5.45 lakh petitions received in the first edition of the drive in 2011, 2.97 lakh have been cleared and relief worth Rs.20.82 crore disbursed.

The second phase in 2013 received 3.21 lakh petitions of which 3.16 lakh have been settled and relief worth Rs.55.10 crore disbursed.

Petitions will be accepted at the Collectorates and taluk offices till the previous day of the mass contact programme. Mr. Chandy will meet 100 complainants who have serious problems in each district. The rest of the complaints will be handled by a screening committee headed by a Minister deputed for each district. Medical teams will call on bed-ridden complainants and the relief will be fixed on the basis of their recommendations.

Since majority of the people have linked their bank account with their Aadhaar numbers, the relief will be deposited in their accounts.
