CM to open Games Village

Chief Minister Oommen Chandy will inaugurate the shooting range at Vattiyurkavu, National Games Village at Menamkulam, and the renovated Chandrasekharan Nair Stadium on Wednesday.

The shooting range inside the Kerala Technical Directorate had been constructed at a cost of Rs.17.1 crore. The events in the rifle-pistol categories would be held at the venue from February 1 to 7.

The Rs.60-crore games village had 365 dwelling units for accommodating athletes, officials accompanying teams, and trainers. The units were made using low-cost pre-fabricated technology, an official release here said.

The renovated Chandrasekharan Nair Stadium would be the training ground for athletes.

The stadium was renovated by providing synthetic tracks, lawn, and floodlights at a cost of Rs.8 crore.

Minister for Labour Shibu Baby John, N.K. Premachandran, MP, P.K Gurudhasan and A.A Aziz, MLAs, would attend the inaugural function, the release added.
