More funds will be allotted for the Ayush Department and the public will have more opportunities for availing themselves of treatment under various systems of medicine, Chief Minister Oommen Chandy has said. He was inaugurating the first phase of Ayush projects, estimated at Rs.9.5 crore, for the year here on Wednesday.
A total of Rs.21 crore has been earmarked by the Centre for Ayush projects for the State this year. All panchayats in the State have facilities for Ayurveda treatment and homoeopathy clinics are available in all except 40 panchayats.
Health Minister V.S. Sivakumar said that it was important to strengthen and equip Ayush systems of medicines to combat the growing cases of lifestyle diseases.
Mr. Chandy handed over the funds for the proposed Ayush tribal mobile medical unit at Attappady to take care of the nutritional and anaemia issues among women and children as well as the funds for a homoeo mobile unit at Kanthalloor-Marayoor-Chi- nnakanal tribal belt in Idukki.
