Participants will be invited to build working prototypes over the time span of a weekend.
More and more persons are joining the ranks of a community whose gamut of watchwords include, ‘Startup centres’, ‘open source’ and ‘entrepreneurship’.
A few other cities in the country have already embraced this revolution that encourages a culture of innovation, and Thiruvananthapuram is slowly joining the club.
One sure sign of this is that the city will play host to a very popular ‘Idea to Prototype’ event, ‘In50Hrs’.
Scheduled for May 3 to 5, the first edition of this event in the city will be held at Technopark in the city, following the Pune and Chennai chapters of the same.
The organisers aim to provide a platform that will see an assembly of ‘idea-smiths’, developers and product designers, all working together to develop an idea that will solve pertinent issues.
Participants will be invited to build working prototypes over the time span of a weekend, after which they will be demonstrated at a ‘Demo Evening’ to peers and a jury panel.
In a press release, Vijay Anand, whose brainchild In50Hrs is, has described this forum as the perfect opportunity for anyone who has a business idea in web or mobile space.
“They have a weekend to figure if that idea is really worth all that trouble. If you are a coder or a designer looking to get involved in some edgy programming work, then here is an opportunity,” he said.
To the growing community of entrepreneurs in the State, this is a welcome event.
An angel investor with the Kerala Startup community, Babu Mohanan, has describes it as heralding the “arrival of startup ecosystems in Kerala due to the culmination of efforts of people and groups here in the State”.
He noted reluctance on part of startup groups that had been flourishing in other States, to come to Kerala.
“It is important that they get all support from the entrepreneurship community here, which will encourage other similar groups to start their activity here,” he said.
