Scientists, biodiversity and conservation experts, researchers, students and NGOs from all over the country are expected to participate in the Indian Biodiversity Congress 2012, beginning here on December 27.
The four-day event is being organised in collaboration with the National Biodiversity Authority (NBA) and different State biodiversity boards.
An official press note quoting K.P. Lala Dhas, member-secretary, Kerala State Biodiversity Board, said a committee had been set up with Chief Minister Oommen Chandy as patron for the conduct of IBC.
It said the congress would have biodiversity and food security as the central theme. A biodiversity seminar, exhibition, and popularisation programme will be organised as part of the event.
Experts from various sectors will discuss topics such as forest biodiversity, agro biodiversity, ocean biodiversity, traditional knowledge systems, urbanisation and wetland diversity. Separate programmes for farmers and students will also be organised.
Students and NGOs would be mobilised for a road show to be organised as part of the biodiversity popularisation programme, the press note added.
