There is no need for ecumenism as unity in diversity is what is needed to trigger growth in society, Senior Metropolitan of the Mar Thoma Church Philipose Mar Chrysostom has said.

He was speaking at his episcopal diamond jubilee celebration held at St. Thomas Mar Thoma Church at Pattoor here on Sunday.

Different churches should work towards unity by accepting each other’s differences, Mar Chrysostom said.

“What society lacks today is the ability to see goodness in others and the willingness to encourage others. If people from diverse backgrounds can stand united, we can achieve real growth in society,” said Mar Chrysostom, the longest-serving bishop in India who has completed 60 years of service to the church.

The first cardinal of the Syro-Malankara rite of the Catholic Church Baselios Cleemis Catholicos was felicitated at the meeting.
