As many as 2,500 tree saplings were distributed to the families attending Mateer Memorial Church in the city as part of a programme titled ‘Plant Green, Breath Clean,' organised by the Christian Endeavour Youth Fellowship (CEYF), a forum for young believers.

Mayor K. Chandrika inaugurated the ceremony by planting a Mahogany sapling on the church campus on Sunday.

12 varieties

Saplings of 12 varieties of trees, including teak, mahogany, jackfruit, mango, Pathimugham, drumstick, and gooseberry, were distributed. The saplings were sponsored by the Forest Department and YMCA Trivandrum.

According to CEYF president Fr. C.R. Vincent, the members had decided to observe October 9 as ‘eco-friendly day' and distribute tree saplings to the families attending their church. The team is also planning to distribute medicinal plants in December.
