Chithira Tirunal award for Mohanlal

Popular actor Mohanlal has been selected for the Sree Chithira Tirunal award for the year 2009.

The award, instituted by the Sree Chithira Tirunal Trust in memory of the erstwhile King of Travancore, carries a cash prize of Rs. One Lakh and citation.

Trust chairman T. Raveendran Thampi announced the award at a press conference here. The award, instituted in 2006, honours individuals who have made exceptional contributions in the fields of art, science, technology, literature, medicine, education and cinema.

Agricultural scientist M. S. Swaminathan, ISRO chairman G. Madhavan Nair and National Security Advisor M. K. Narayanan were the earlier recipients of the award.
