In a sombre function here marked by martial ceremony and traditions, Chief Minister Oommen Chandy on Saturday received the bodies of two Malayali Navy men who lost their lives in the INS Sindhurakshak submarine accident at the Mumbai docks on August 14.

Mr. Chandy laid floral wreaths on the coffins of Liju Lawrence of Thiruvananthapuram and Vishnu Viswambaran of Alappuzha district. Navy men sounded the last post and presented arms in honour of the submariners who sacrificed their lives in their line of duty.

Health Minister V. S. Sivakumar, District Collector K.N. Satheesh and Ex-Service Men Corporation president Captain P.K.R. Nair were among those present.

A cavalcade of vehicles accompanied the hearses carrying the bodies of the sailors to their native villages.
