Chief Minister Oommen Chandy on Tuesday took the students of the GMUP School, Ozhukoor, in Malappuram district, by surprise by instantly granting their wish to have a smart classroom in their school.

The children had arrived here to receive the award won by their school for the best effort to eradicate drug abuse, as part of the State-level inauguration of the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking observance.

When Shahana, a member of the school contingent, submitted a memorandum to Mr. Chandy, seeking support from the Excise Department to set up a smart classroom, the Chief Minister did not waste a moment to give consent. As an amused Excise Minister K. Babu looked on, Mr. Chandy announced that the children would have their wish realised very soon. An elated delegation erupted in cheers at the announcement.
