Chief Minister Oommen Chandy has stressed the need for Kerala to adopt global benchmark standards in science education and research.
Inaugurating the 10 annual meeting of the Kerala State Council for Science, Technology and Environment here on Thursday, he said it was time for the state to change its science policy that was formulated 40 years back.
He said the new policy would be framed on the lines of the National Science, Technology and Innovation Policy.
Mr.Chandy said Kerala would have a key role in supplying resources to match the nation’s demand for full time scientists and technical experts. He urged KSCSTE to help research institutions in Kerala achieve global standards.
Underlining the importance of science in improving the quality of life of the people, he said it could help solve problems like drought, solid waste management, environmental problems and the energy crisis.
Science, he said, could help Kerala in the agricultural, manufacturing and public health sectors.
He exhorted KSCSTE to create opportunities for students and youth to become entrepreneurs. He also underlined the need for better coordination between scientists.
