Chain-snatchers in custody

May 18, 2014 01:34 pm | Updated 01:34 pm IST - THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:

The Booster Patrol, set up to tackle the seemingly never-ending menace of chain-snatchers in the city, finally appear to be getting their act together.

The patrol, according to a senior police officer, is learnt to have nabbed two youngsters on Friday after they had snatched a 2.75-sovereign gold chain from a woman from near the Government Medical College here. The patrol reportedly swung into action as soon as a witness alerted the police and chased the accused, who were on a two-wheeler. The youngsters, identified as Rahul, 23, of Kadinamkulam and Shibin, 25, of Thonnakal, are said to have abandoned their motorcycle near the Vikram Sarabai Space Centre (VSSC), after the Booster trail behind them got hot, and they tried to escape by entering the VSSC campus.

The youngsters, who got trapped inside the high-security campus and were unable to come out because of the security there, were reportedly nabbed in the early hours of Saturday after the patrol managed to trace them there. The senior police official said they were suspected to be part of a gang. Their arrest was likely to be recorded on Sunday.
