The Socio Economic and Caste Census (SECC) 2011 under the Ministry of Rural Development of the Government of India, scheduled to begin on April 10, will include sub-caste division for the first time.
This is the first time after 1931 that information on a person's sub-caste is being taken in the SECS. The aggregated information will be made available in the public domain. However, adhering to the rules, no personal information of an individual would be revealed, said V.M. Gopala Menon, Director in Charge, Directorate of Census Operations at a press conference on Friday. Details regarding the House listing and Housing Census 2011 report were also released on the occasion.
The entire exercise will be paperless, done on a hand-held electronic device (tablet PC). This will reduce data entry errors and enumerator discretion. Also officers at various levels will make sure that there is no misreporting through special scrutiny at the grama sabha level, said Mr.Menon.
