A case has been registered against a sub-inspector and an inquiry has been launched against him for failing to register a case under the Protection of Children Against Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and starting legal action against those accused of sexual crimes against children.

Child rights panel

This was informed by the Pathanamthitta district police chief to the Kerala State Commission for Protection of Child Rights.

Action has been initiated under relevant sections of the POCSO Act against former Aranmula sub-inspector Aswith S. Karanmayil on the recommendations of the commission.

13-year-old’s complaint

The sub-inspector allegedly refused to take the statement of a 13-year-old-girl who had complained of misbehaviour by her neighbour and being forced to pose for compromising pictures. He did not take any legal action either.

Despite being issued summons repeatedly, he failed to appear before the commission and it recommended department-level action against the police officer.
