The Museum Police has registered a case against Mayor V.K.Prashant and three other LDF councillors under the provisions of the Scheduled Castes and the Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, for allegedly hurling caste abuses on Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) councillor M.Lakshmi. A similar case has also been registered against three councillors of the BJP for allegedly hurling caste slurs and abuses at LDF councillor Sindhu Sasi.

In addition to the Mayor, the cases have been filed against LDF councillors I.P.Binu, S.S.Sindhu and Raziya Beegum. On Tuesday, L.Murugan, the vice-chairperson of the National Commission for Scheduled Castes had visited Ms.Lakshmi at a private hospital here. In her complaint, Ms. Lakshmi had accused the Mayor and the councillors of abusing and assaulting her. Mr.Murugan had directed the police to initiate action based on her complaint.

LDF councillor Sindhu Sasi had filed a complaint to the Assistant Commissioner accusing BJP councillors of abusing her at the Palayam bus stand. Based on this, a case has been registered against BJP councillors K.Anilkumar, Karamana Ajith and V.Giri.

The two cases will be clubbed together with the two cases registered earlier after the clashes inside the council hall, including the one related to attempt to murder based on a complaint filed by the Mayor against the BJP councillors, and investigated. The Police have not yet proceeded with the arrest of the BJP councillors V.G.Girikumar and R.C.Beena, in connection with the attack on the Mayor.

Meanwhile, the Mayor who has been undergoing treatment at the Medical College Hospital here after sustaining injuries in an alleged attack by BJP councillors after the council meeting last week, was discharged from the hospital on Wednesday evening. A special medical board meeting was convened to assess his health situation. He has been advised two weeks rest.
