Thiruvananthapuram district stood 11th among the 14 districts with a pass percentage of 92.50 in the Secondary School Leaving Certificate (SSLC) examinations, the results of which were declared here on Wednesday.
A total of 43,213 students took the examination, of which 39,973 students were declared eligible for higher studies.
This includes 19,587 boys and 20,386 girls, of which 891 students secured A-plus grade in all subjects in the district. Various city schools organised celebrations soon after they checked their results online.
At St. Mary’s Higher Secondary School, Pattom, teachers and parents treated the 38 students who secured A-plus in all subjects to ice-cream and ladoos.
Offering sweets to her mathematics teacher, S.Uma Devi who was one among the students who secured A-plus in all subjects, said her teacher was more tense to know her mathematics marks. “Though she studies well, during the time of examination , she gets tense and does not perform well. She usually gets A-plus in all subjects except mathematics.
“This time, she scored well in maths, otherwise her mother would have scolded me”, said Maths teacher Suja Mathew, hugging her dearest student.
Teachers at the Government Girls Higher Secondary school, Cotton Hill, which hosted the highest number of students at this year’s examinations, were also happy with the results. “Twenty-six students have secured A-plus grade in all subjects and more importantly, 14 students under the Integrated Education for Disable (IED) scheme have also performed well,” said a teacher at the school.
According to her , the number of students who secured A-plus in all subjects is expected to be more than the present number as many are yet to get their final marks , which would include the additional ‘grace marks’ under various categories.
It was a joyous occasion at the Government school for Blind in the city where all the five students who appeared for the examination came out with flying colours. According to the topper at the school, A.Akshara , the special audio CDs of textbooks prepared by the school authorities helped her to prepare well for the examinations.
Similarly, the students of Government Vocational Higher Secondary School for Deaf, Jagathy, did their school proud by securing commendable grades. Six students under SSLC and four students under the Technical Higher Secondary scheme secured good grades.
