Work on facility to be over in six months
A Rs.1.18-crore wayside camping centre will be set up at Kallar, en route to the hill resort of Ponmudi for the benefit of tourists.
Two dormitories to accommodate 80 persons, four guest rooms, and a conference room will be part of the facility. Along with this, the renovation of the tourist facilitation centre, set up by the District Tourism Promotion Council in 2004 at a cost of Rs.20 lakh, will also be taken up.
DTPC Secretary O.T. Prakash said the building will be completed in six months.
The camping centre will come up on 50 cents of land handed over by to the DTPC by the Department of Tourism near the Kallar bridge. The facilitation centre, constructed on the lines of the Kanakakunnu palace, will have a floor area of 500 sq ft.
The bathing ghat at Kallar will be at close by and the Meenmutty waterfalls, managed by the eco-development committee, just two km from the proposed camping centre. Speaker G. Karthikeyan will lay the foundation stone for the camping centre on Wednesday.
The camping centre will be of use to tourists proceeding to Kallar, Meenmutty, and Ponmudi.
