The State Information and Public Relations Department’s anti-drug campaign, Laharimuktha Keralam Aiswarya Keralam, which set off as a rally from Thycaud Government Model Higher Secondary School here, was given a welcome at Nedumangad and Perumathura on Thursday.

The campaign focuses on creating a drug-free State. The reception meeting at Nedumangad was inaugurated by Palode Ravi, MLA, and the one at Perumathura by V. Sasi, MLA.

The meeting at the Nedumangad Government College ground saw a large turn-up of students, teachers, and the general public. Mr. Ravi urged them to become the ambassadors of the campaign and to spread the message in their localities.

The meeting at Perumathura saw a crowd which comprised mostly women and children.

Mr. Sasi said the campaign, even after the rally, would be sustained in the area through anti-drug activities and awareness creation programmes. All efforts would be taken to rid the State of drugs. It is the right approach to take the message to students initially and then to society , he said. ‘Nilam,’ the folk song, street-play troupe from Kasaragod, is staging programmes to create awareness on the dangers of alcoholism.

Indra Ajith, a magician from Thiruvananthapuram Gems, is also performing as part of the campaign. The rally will pass through all districts, stopping at a school, a college, and a village in every district. It will culminate in Kollam on January 20, a release said.
