Camp with a difference

: Even as the numerous summer camps in the city draw to a close, the Thiruvananthapuram chapter of World Vision India has embarked on a camp with a difference — a four-day State-level character building workshop for differently abled youngsters.

Inaugurating the camp, Health Minister V.S. Sivakumar lauded the initiative, which aims to impart leadership skills, career guidance and overall personality development of the differently abled children.

N. Ahmed Pillai, Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities, said such programmes would be useful to the differently abled children.

“We have included able bodied children as well in the workshop so that differently abled youngsters can socialise and develop healthy relationship with other children of their age, said Joy K. Mathew, manager, World Vision India, Thiruvananthapuram.

Learn by doing

We have opted for a ‘learn by doing’ method by incorporating fun activities that will inculcate team spirit and confidence in the children,” said George Pulikkan, TV anchor who is involved in the organisation of the camp, taking classes on personality development and leadership training classes.

The four-day workshop, being held at the Jubilee Memorial Animation Centre, would conclude on May 28.
