August 29, 2011 03:27 pm | Updated 03:27 pm IST - Thiruvananthapuram:

V. Sivankutty, MLA, has appealed to the State government to take urgent steps to solve drinking water scarcity in many parts of his constituency.

In a press note issued here, he said Kalady, Melekad, Kunnumpuram, Maruthurkadavu, Arasumoodu, Iranimuttam, Judge Nagar, Pappanamcode industrial estate, Nemom, Karamana, Nedumkad, Thaliyal, Podiyadi lane, Kattakkal, Pallithanam, Keezharannoor, Poonkulam, Kottukunnu, Chembuvila, Thiruvallam, and Punchakari had turned into water-stressed areas. He said unannounced disruption in water supply had become a daily occurrence.

“The public and elected representatives are helpless in the face of an unresponsive administration,” he said, calling on the Minister for Water Resources to convene a high-level meeting to discuss the issue and find a solution at the earliest.

Mr. Sivankutty warned that he would be forced to spearhead an agitation in front of the offices of the Kerala Water Authority if the government continued to turn a deaf ear to the plea of the public.
