Speakers at a consultative workshop on preparation of handbooks on water quality and sanitation for lower and upper primary schoolchildren organised by the Centre for Water Resources Development and Management (CWRDM) here on Friday stressed the need to involve the student community in water quality and sanitation programmes.
Chief Secretary P. Prabhakaran inaugurated the workshop. K.V. Jayakumar, executive director, CWRDM, presided over the inaugural function. Mr. Prabhakaran said 50 per cent of the health issues could be solved by ensuring supply of safe drinking water. He said despite the availability of water, sewage contamination was a major issue in the State.
