Kerala Council for Science, Technology and Environment (KCSTE) executive vice-president Suresh Das has said that good research is a lot about team work and the readiness to overcome setbacks.
Inaugurating a three-day workshop on Computer Aided Drug Discovery at the Department of Computational Biology and Bioinformatics, University of Kerala, here on Tuesday, Dr. Das said that all big breakthroughs in scientific research were the outcome of persistent pursuits of leads which, sometimes, could end nowhere.
He cited the example of the Mao-era Chinese scientist Tu Youyou, who was awarded the Nobel Prize in Medicine, for her discovery of artemisinin, which helped the world combat malaria outbreaks.
Dr. Das released the first volume of Ayurinformatica Research Bulletin , being brought out by the Department at the function.
Department head Achuthsankar S. Nair said the researchers at the department were in pursuit of a super drug by delving deep into the rich receptacle of traditional knowledge of Kerala.
