A private bus toppled off the Mamom bridge near Attingal at around 10.30 p.m. on Sunday night. None of the nearly 20 passengers on board suffered major injuries, and were rescued within an hour by the Fire & Rescue Services personnel, police and the local people, according to officials at the Attingal Fire & Rescue Services station. The bus, a 35-seater, was headed towards Coimbatore. The driver lost control of the vehicle while giving way to another bus to overtake it, according to sources. The branches of a tree on the side prevented it from falling into the river below.

Traffic on the National Highway was disrupted in the wake of the accident.
