Channels under Reliance face boycott

March 29, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:55 am IST - THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:

The Kerala Cable TV Operators Association will boycott channels controlled by Reliance on March 31 in protest against the Kerala State Electricity Board’s (KSEB) decision to rent out its electric posts exclusively to the private firm.

The operators will not air channels such as CNN-IBN, CNBC, COLORS, MTV, and ETV on the day, N.H Anwar, president of the operators association, said at a press conference here on Saturday.

Demonstration

The association will also stage a demonstration before the KSEB office at Pattom on Tuesday.

On the same day, a public meeting will be held at Palayam to mark the culmination of a State-wide rally taken out by the association from Kasaragod on March 15, he said.

The move by the KSEB to lease out electric posts across the State to Reliance will cut into the business of small cable operators. “It is clear favouritism to the private firm and the deal involves corruption,” Mr. Anwar said.
