A 15-year-old boy from Idinjar, near Palode, was admitted to the Government Medical College Hospital here after the second husband of his grandmother allegedly thrashed him with a cane when he objected to a drinking session of the man with his friends.

According to Palode sub inspector D. Shibukumar, Sajeev, 15, was living with his grandmother Vasantha and her second husband Rajendran after his parents allegedly abandoned him. On Saturday, Rajendran was drinking with his friends in their house. When Sajeev opposed this, Rajendran allegedly kicked him to the ground and hit him with a cane.

Neighbours first took him to the Nedumangad Taluk Hospital, where he was administered first aid. He was shifted to the medical college by Saturday evening. The boy is said to have injuries all over his body, but is out of danger.

The police have registered a case against Rajendran, 50, who is absconding.
