The body of the CPI(M) Palaikonam branch secretary, Shobhi, was found in the Karamana river, near Kavalapura, Kottakkakom, in Aryanad police station limits on Thursday.
According to the police, the body of 57-year-old Shobhi, alias Gopi, was found in the river, a km-and-half from his residence, Thadatharikathu Veedu, around 10 a.m.
Shobhi left the house on November 8 morning, and had been missing since then.
The local residents and party activists raised suspicion over the death as tension has been prevailing in Kattakada for the last few weeks between the CPI(M) and Congress activists and alleged that he was murdered.
An inquest was carried out under Circle Inspector of Police, Arayanad, S. Nasrudeen and a post mortem was carried out by a team of doctors at the Medical College Hospital. The body was later handed over to the relatives. The Arayanad police registered a case of unnatural death.
The police have registered a case for unnatural death in connection with the death of Nabeesath Beevi, 57, a resident of Chala, in Fort police station limits on Thursday. According to the police, the woman, a resident of Karimadhom colony breathed her last while undergoing treatment for injuries suffered during the alleged assault by her husband, Basheer. The body was handed over to the relatives after post mortem.
A 45-year-old migrant labourer from West Bengal was injured while he was carrying out works at an electric post near Sreekariyam on Thursday.
He has been identified as Bhopal, and is undergoing treatment at the Medical College Hospital.
