BJP hartal on January 27

For Mani’s ouster over bar bribe issue

January 23, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 12:27 pm IST - THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will organise a hartal in the State on January 27 demanding ouster of Finance Minister K.M. Mani from the government over the bar-bribery scandal.

The party is also demanding that Chief Minister resign and go for a midterm poll.

BJP State president V. Muraleedharan and Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha president P. Sudheer told the media here on Thursday that the party would organise torchlight processions on Friday and Saturday as a prelude to the hartal. The morcha would take out a march to the Secretariat on Saturday.

He said that it would be a disaster for Kerala if Mr. Mani presented the next State Budget.

The demand that Mr. Mani should not present the budget had come from Congress men themselves.

He was alleged to have made bargains with interested parties over taxation proposals. The Chief Minister was trying to shield Mr. Mani.
