The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has demanded the government to seek an explanation from State Police Chief T.P. Sen Kumar for stirring a controversy over Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Puttingal Devi Temple immediately after the disaster.

Party spokesperson J.R. Padma Kumar told reporters here on Friday that Mr. Sen Kumar’s bid to rake up a controversy over the visit was made with a political motive. Though the visit passed off without any hassles, making a statement after the visit was unfortunate and lacked propriety. The State Police Chief should explain why he made such a statement. It was for the Prime Minister to decide where he should visit.

"He can't decide about visit"

As the State Police Chief, it was his responsibility to make the necessary arrangements and he had no authority to decide about the visit. Sharing information about the security issues amounted to violation of service rules. The Home Department should seek his explanation for making the statement, Mr. Padma Kumar said.
