Lawyer and activist Prashant Bhushan on Saturday made a scathing attack on the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government, alleging that it was trying to spread the ‘four dangers of communalism, obscurantism, fascism, and anti-people pro-corporate economic policies.’
The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader, who was here to campaign on the platform of Anti-Corruption Movement, also alleged that the Narendra Modi government had plans to roll back some progressive legislations brought in by the previous United Progressive Alliance regime.
Accusing the affiliates of the BJP of indulging in rampant communalism, Mr. Bhushan told reporters here that Mr. Modi might not have direct involvement in this but was ‘granting permission to his ground-level workers to do this thing.’
Stance on science
Taking a dig at the government’s approach towards science and history, he said that those in the government were consciously replacing experts with obscurantist people in institutions and they were pushing people to the Stone Age.
Some people-friendly legislations like the RTI Act, MGNREGS schemes, Forest Rights Act, and amendments to the Land Acquisition Act brought in by the previous government were under threat, he said.
Though no major scam had hit the government in its seven-month rule yet, nothing appeared to have happened at the institutional level to check corruption, he said. — PTI
