The government’s attempt is to create more patient-centric facilities in the State and to ensure that people are given the best of medical care and facilities.

This means that the government hospitals will have to function for longer hours and the government will not allow any slackening when it comes to health care delivery, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has said.

He was inaugurating the conversion of primary health centres in the State as family health centres (FHC), a major initiative under Aardram Mission to boost primary healthcare delivery. The first of the FHCs was opened at Chemmaruthy PHC here on Thursday.

Those in the health sector should ensure that patients were not put to any difficulties. The government would take steps to solve any outstanding issues that staff might have, Mr. Vijayan said. The State was realising a big dream on the health front by boosting primary care and by bringing in the concept of family doctor. The FHCs would take the lead in providing preventive and primary care and ensuring that people were followed up regularly.

Strengthening the health sector was a priority for the government, Mr. Vijayan said. The FHCs would function from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and each would have the service of three doctors, four staff nurses, one lab technician, and one pharmacist.

He released the handbook on standard treatment protocols by handing over a copy to the Medical Officer at Chemmaruthy, Anwar Abbas. He also distributed the unique health identity cards to people, being brought out as part of e-health. Health Minister K.K. Shylaja presided.
