The 80th birth anniversary of poet Ayyappa Panicker will be celebrated at a function to be held in the VJT Hall here on September 12.

Eminent Kannada writer and Jnanpith Award winner U.R. Ananthamoorthy will deliver this year's Ayyappa Panicker Memorial Lecture. The theme of the lecture is ‘Indian Literature: Dalit Contribution.' The lecture will be followed by a discussion on the subject. Ayyappa Panicker Foundation president K. Satchidanandan will preside over the function and vice-president T.P. Sreenivasan will be the moderator.

Book release

‘Poetry at Midnight,' English translation of Ayyappa Panicker's last anthology of poems ‘Pathumanipookkal by P. Ravindran Nayar, will be formally released at the function by Prof. Ananthamoorthy.

Visual presentation

At 6.30 p.m., selected poems of Ayyappa Panicker will get a visual representation on stage in performance by groups of students from some of the city colleges. The teams participating in this competitive presentation are from the All Saints College, Mar Ivanios College, NSS College for Women, Karamana, and the Departments of English and Malayalam of the University of Kerala. The team selected for the best performance will be presented with the Ayyappa Panicker Poetry Trophy.

The programme is being organised by the Ayyappa Panicker Foundation in association with the Kendra Sahitya Akademi and the Information and Public Relations Department, Kerala.
