The victim has suffered injuries due to crackers thrown at him

The Peroorkada police have arrested one person in connection with Friday night’s attack on Renoy, 27, the Elankamvila branch secretary of the Communist Party of India (Marxist).

According to the police, the accused, Nithin, 21, of Muttada, had attacked Mr. Renoy around 10.30 p.m. on Friday, along with nine others. They had thrown crackers at him, as a result of which he suffered injuries on his face, hands, and legs. The attack, the police said, was led by ‘Olapeepi’ Biju and was after Mr. Renoy had reportedly objected to the sale of ganja and drugs by Biju’s gang in the area.

Nithin was arrested, produced before court, and remanded in judicial custody on Saturday. A search is on for Biju and the other accused.

Chain-snatchers held

The Valiathura police have arrested two persons in connection with a chain-snatching incident reported earlier this week.

According to the police, Vijin Markose, 24, of Beemapally and Robinson Gomez, 32, also of Beemapally, were arrested following a tipoff received by Shanghumughom Assistant Commissioner Jawahar Janardh.

The duo was arrested in connection with the snatching of a gold chain weighing 3.5 sovereigns from a woman at Valiathura earlier this week.

The police party that reached the house where the duo was holed up were attacked by relatives of the two but managed to nab them before they escaped, the police said.
