The Kerala Legislative Assembly will honour K.J. Yesudas, who has completed 50 years in playback singing.

Chief Minister Oommen Chandy; Leader of the Opposition V. S. Achuthanandan; and other Ministers and political party leaders will take part in the function which will be held at the members' lounge of the Assembly complex at 3 p.m. on April 11.

A documentary on Mr. Yesudas, titled ‘Sadguru,' made by the Public Relations Department, will be screened for the first time at this function.

In his special mention in the Assembly on March 22, Speaker G. Karthikeyan, said that Mr. Yesudas's voice would last as long as there is Malayalam and Malayalis.

“He is a living legend, who has contributed immensely to the growth of classical, light, or film music. Having come up in life the hard way, his musical life and journey should be an example of dedication and willpower for the youth,” Mr. Karthikeyan, said. “What makes Mr. Yesudas unique is that even while being a patron of pure Carnatic music, he is able to maintain his popularity through playback singing.”
